Kaizen Events

What Is a Kaizen Event?

A Kaizen Event is a focused improvement effort that brings the right people together to solve a specific process problem in a short period of time.

Rather than trying to improve everything at once, a Kaizen Event concentrates on one defined area, problem, or process and works toward practical changes that can be implemented quickly.

What Is a Manufacturing Kaizen Event?

A Kaizen Event is a focused continuous-improvement effort that brings the right people together to solve a specific manufacturing process problem in a short period of time.

Rather than trying to improve everything at once, a Kaizen Event concentrates on one defined area, problem, or process and works toward practical changes that can be implemented quickly and sustained over time.

What a Kaizen Event Looks At

The Current Process — How is the work actually being performed today?

Waste — Where are time, motion, material, labor, floor space, or other resources being wasted?

Bottlenecks — What is limiting flow or preventing the process from keeping up with production demand?

Layout & Movement — Are operators, material, tools, or parts moving farther than necessary?

Setup & Changeover — Are setup times, adjustments, or changeovers creating unnecessary downtime or lost production?

Quality Problems — Where are defects, rework, inspection failures, or repeated issues entering the process?

Standard Work — Are operators following a consistent and repeatable method, or does the process vary from person to person?

Why Kaizen Events Matter

A focused Kaizen Event can help improve manufacturing performance without waiting for a large capital project or complete process redesign.

Kaizen Events can help:

  • Solve recurring production problems
  • Reduce wasted motion and waiting
  • Improve workflow and material flow
  • Shorten setup or changeover time
  • Reduce defects and rework
  • Improve workstation and equipment layout
  • Increase process consistency
  • Improve standard work
  • Get employees involved in improving the process

When a Kaizen Event Makes Sense

A manufacturing Kaizen Event is especially useful when:

  • A specific production problem keeps coming back
  • One operation or area is creating a bottleneck
  • Setup or changeover time is excessive
  • Material flow is inefficient
  • Operators are spending too much time walking, searching, or waiting
  • Quality problems are concentrated in one process
  • Work methods vary significantly between operators
  • A process needs improvement but the root cause is not obvious

BrewerMade’s Approach to Kaizen Events

BrewerMade keeps Kaizen focused on practical changes that can actually be used on the manufacturing floor.

The goal is not to hold meetings and create lists of ideas. It is to understand the problem, involve the people doing the work, identify the biggest opportunities, test practical improvements, and help turn those changes into a process that can be implemented and sustained.
